Nik's guitar career began 12 years ago from classical roots: Strumming the first few bars to "Knocking on heaven's door" on an old bright red Squire Strat. After he'd learnt a rough approximation of the solo to that song he quickly followed it up by creating his first school band, a band that Sonic Undermind's other guitarist, Mike was also later to join. Despite some fun but embarrassing early school gigs he persevered until he was reunited with Mike in Sonic Undermind.
Bands such as Candlemass, Sabbath, Maiden and RATM influence Nikhil's guitar playing style and despite the occasional tendency to break into overblown arthritis inducing solos, Nik brings elements of funk and blues to his playing to create a hard rocking, light-hearted sound.
